Are you Sleeping on Satin ?

Its all over the blogs , Youtubers, Hairnistas , everybody who has started a hair journey and included Satin pillowcases have declared their glory…..I however had to try it for myself …been fooled by the hype too many times !

I started sleeping on satin pillowcases approximately 4 months prior. Made a whole bunch for my household and just simply let it be. It was such an easy routine to get into. I didn’t have to over think it or use special techniques or measure approximately or do in combination with any other product – it was such a seamless natural transition to make. All I did was Sleep. That’s it !

The results are amazingly unexpected. While the MOST significant change for me was the immediate reduction in pimple breakouts and a smoother surface to skin my hair was undoubtedly retaining moisture , I had less hair if any on the bed and I finally started seeing growth after being stuck at the nape of my neck for a few months now. I also suffered – really suffered from having the left side of my hair (the side I sleep on ) being thinner and shorter than my right side. All that has changed – literally overnight !

I loved it so much I made sure to source the BEST quality of silky smooth Charmeuse Satin and Voila !! Sleep on Satin pillowcases are now available for immediate purchase via our online store.

Those who know , KNOW ! We only sell products we’ve tried tested & proven to be the BEST !!

Why Am I Hair ?

I’ve been in Beauty Salons long before I ever wanted or needed to.

I grew up with what we called in rural Jamaica – “Hog-Hair” or a head of very very very thick hair. My grandma had the task of combing my hair on weekends and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t on her Things I Look Forward To Do listing …..my hairstyles were gospel of that.

I got my first perm/relaxer at age 8 and they had to hold me down for that one. The only thing that stopped me from running out the salon to the police station was the promise of long flowing hair like that of my dolly. Every comb through was a knee-jerk and a quick assessment of the route to run. I hated getting a relaxer but I endured the dreaded 6 hours for better looking “dodo” plaits in prep school. The boys were horrific.

Fast Forward to High School and College Days and a multiplicity of hair adventures with kool-aid colours and cuts. Oh how much I loved my hair ….. thick , healthy with beautifully laid sideburns. My father (of all persons) saw it as a necessity for me to go to the hairdresser every weekend. I personally didn’t mind. I loved hanging with my then stylist Carol aka “My Big Woman Friend” …..chuckles

Inserts True Story/Joke: I would go to the salon on Sunday afternoons, after dinner because Carol  had her shop pretty close to my home. Back then I would bake on Sundays and bring to the salon for her to taste. The ladies started calling me Baker Brown and of course in true form I started baking and selling cakes from her shop every Sunday. It soon became a ritual for the parents and children in the community. Ice-Cream at the Indian Shop and Cake at the Beauty Salon ( sounds like colic right  ) I kid you not – me and those Pillsbury Cake Mixes and Frostings were the foundations of my very first business venture……right there in a Beauty Salon.

Over the years , I’ve tried my hand at many things all for the fun of it. Business was always FUN first and if I made a profit , even better. In those days there was really never a need – all I had was passion. Christmas Trees, MakeUp & Jewelry, Clothing Shoes , Bar-BQues , Fashion Shows – you name it my friends and I did it.

Skip a couple tracks to 2012 , I’m sitting at Spa Esther ( Kings Plaza waiting on Cadey Haughton to make me pretty) as I did every single weekend. The highlight of these trips weren’t so much getting my hair done but moreso looking at the transformation of others. I loved looking at the varied hairstyles and techniques – how women faces lit up after a new haircut – the discussions that made the salon come alive and the quiet one to one when it was my time in the chair. I really LOVED the experiences and realized then just how significant HAIR in every capacity was.

Hair Honey is the emancipation of many passions captured and rolled right back into one. Nothing has ever felt this right ! Today I start my blog as a continuation along the journey to …….who knows !
